We talk more and more of the green shift in the automobile world, but what does it mean for the Japanese manufacturer Nissan?
L’Ami Junior Nissan in Chicoutimi answers this question and informs you of the most recent progress with the Nissan Ambition 2030 program.
Nissan electric vehicles: well before everyone else!
Nissan was one of the first automobile manufacturers to offer us an electric vehicle with the Nissan Leaf. Since its launch in 2011, it has won multiple times the title of the best-selling electric vehicle in the world. Gilles Pilon, in L’Annuel de l’automobile 2022, writes:
“Nissan was very bold by presenting its first entirely electric car to the public almost a decade before others.”
In 2022, the Nissan Ariya marks an important step in the green shift. This completely electric compact SUV set the tone of a new era at Nissan. The electric vehicle Nissan Leaf will feel less alone in the showroom.
In the wake of the arrival of this new electric compact SUV, Nissan announces a green plan called Ambition 2030.
Let’s briefly look at what was presented in the program, including the announcement of four concepts which set the table for the near future.
The Ambition 2030 Nissan plan: when the future is now!
Last December, the Japanese manufacturer made its mark with an ambitious electrification plan of its vehicles.
During this decade, Nissan will invest more than 22 billion dollars as part of its Ambition 2030 program.
In all, Nissan promises the arrival of 23 new electrified vehicles until the end of the decade. Of this lot, 15 will be entirely electric, while the others are hybrids.
In the next five years, the manufacturer Nissan will put on our roads 20 new electric or hybrid models. With such a great offer, Nissan has set a target of 40% of its sales in electrified models for 2030!
The manufacturer also promises that one of its new cars will be equipped with a solid-state battery, one of the technologies that allows it to be revolutionary in the electric vehicle universe.
The first of the 15 electric vehicles that has been launched in 2022 is the Nissan Ariya, which already offers a range of more than 480 km in its Long Autonomy TA model. Julien Amado, in Le Guide de l’auto 2022, thereby states about the different versions of the 2022 Ariya, that it has “convincing numbers in its category.”
It’s a big step in the right direction, and the next few years will be crucial for the Japanese manufacturer. If he isn’t the only one engaging in the electrification of cars, Nissan has nevertheless done things in the right order.
Electric Nissan: four concepts already in the Pipeline!
During the announcement of the electrification plan, Nissan revealed four concepts that give us an idea of certain directions that the car manufacturer wishes to take. The Chill-Out, Surf-Out, Hang-Out and Max-Out vehicles show that innovation has not limits for Nissan.

If the table is set to go even further in the Nissan plan, the cornerstone stays the transition towards solid-state batteries for the new few years.
“To progress in this direction, Nissan will continue to evolve its lithium-ion battery technologies and will introduce a cobalt-free technology in order to reduce the costs by 65% until the fiscal year 2028.”
Paul-Robert Raymond, Le Soleil
In short, in 2011, the Nissan Leaf was revolutionizing the automobile market. In 2022, the Nissan Ariya concretized years of research and development. 2030 is at our door, and Nissan is accelerating its electrification tendency. The Japanese manufacturer innovates and persists.
